Careflight Classic Anyone?

I was talking with a friend about last weekend's speed run down The Oaks and he suggested we might like to do the Careflight Woodford to Glenbrook Classic.

Now - in the past I've said, "Bloody hell - $35 to ride down a trail I can do anytime!". But, since then have attended a few events and realise that the fun of the day is something not to be missed. I've also seen people flown off even fire trail - and anyone that saw Sunday's 60 Minutes story about Boy Wonder will realise what a critical role choppers funded by these sorts of events play.

The actual route is from Woodford station to Euroka near Glenbrook, and it's scheduled for Sunday June 24.

Anyone want to make a team (no limit on numbers, first two home decide the team time)? Or just go solo?

Entry forms are here for those who are tempted.

HI Rob,

I have done this run for careflight the last couple of years. Dont expect a fast run like you had last Saturday. The Trail will be absolutely packed with riders pretty much taking up the whole track making it impossible to get a good line going. Even though the pace wont be very quick it has a great atmosphere, everyone chatting as there riding, helping each other out etc. It is a good event and for a good cause, i will be there this year, happy to ride as a group or solo if you want to try for a good time, the ride does not do any of the single track, you basically head towards the right after the fast downhill run and end up at the eureka clearing/campsite, it is about 25kms and alot faster than going to the usual end spot.
The ride out of euroka is pretty steep but not very long and then you have the usual road climb out (unless you get the wifey/partner to pick you up. MY wife and kids usually meet me at eureka and we have a picnic or something.

Rob, at this stage, I have no idea whether I can attend. But in theory I am up for an easy ride down the mountain. Not really fussed whether we go together or individually. But it should be a fun day out. We could start our own competition and see how many riders we can overttake.

I wonder how we are going to get all the bikes on the train to start proceedings that morning? That is going to be good for a laugh.

and if you guys can go make up the faster time I am happy to go - unless any other slow pokes want to come with me?
Stuart...I KNOW you want to do it! Not that I am saying you are a slow poke...!!!
Failing that my sister is going to run it - weirdo!

MEEEE Smiling

but Christine...I'd be more than happy to ride slow with you! Though who knows what else may end up happening that weekend. It's a good cause.

Got my entry in!

I have done this ride the last couple of years and it has been fun. We have previously orgnised a car shuffle to get to the top with the bikes. Not too keen on the whole bike in the truck system. The ride is chaos at the start, but it is surprising how fast the riders spread out. I have ended up biking alone sometimes, and wondering if I had fallen into some kind of time warp.

Just for our amusement (or more likely everyone else's) there will be a bunch of us racing on cyclo-cross bikes. So if you see a bunch or 'roadies' we're not lost, just stupid. If we can get past Tobys Glen with out using up all our spare tubes there should be some seriously scary speeds achieved on the fire road down from the wheel. Weeee!!!!

I like the picnic idea, it's a nice spot for one and it would be good to meet each other to re-fuel and re-hydrate after the race.
